E3 2007 - Eidos: behind closed doors - by Didi Cardoso
We missed the Age of Conan party, but we still got to see plenty during the demo in the Eidos showcase room.
After watching a very cool and action-packed trailer, we moved into the tavern: a little bar, a fireplace, some lanterns and three triple-screen computer displays. We were about to see how group play works.
Our group was composed of a priest, a barbarian and a necromancer, adventuring in the Sumerian outdoors. The combat system is designed to feel hands-on, it happens in real time and plays a bit like a console game. The creators tried to stay away from the "press a single button to attack" formula. The barbarian was also able to swing his sword and hit more than one opponent simultaneously and we could see some blood spatter forming on screen. Combat is also more about rushing into a group of enemies than pulling and singling them out.
There are also combo moves... |
